
Eral Thokku / Prawns masala

Ingredients
To Marinate
- 250 gms - Prawns/shrimps
- 1/2 tsp Ginger Garlic paste
- 1 tsp Red chilli powder
- 1 tsp salt
To cook
- 3 tbsp Oil
- 1 green chillies slit lengthwise (optional)
- 4-5 Curry leaves optional
- 1 tsp Fennel seeds
- 1 Onion finely chopped
- 1 cup tomato puree (Can use fresh or canned tomatoes)
- 1 tsp Red chilli powder add less if you prefer less spice
- 1 tsp Garam Masala
- 1/2 tsp Ginger Garlic paste
- 1 cup Water approximate
- 1 tsp Salt adjust to taste
- corriander leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Carefully devein the prawns and wash them and keep aside.
- Take a bowl and Marinate the cleaned and washed shrimps with all the items listed in the “to marinate” section - allow it to marinate for 20 minutes
- In a pan, Add oil, once hot add fennel seeds, curry leaves and sauté for few mins until the flavors infuse in the oil.
- Next add in the green chillies and sauté for a few seconds.
- Next add in the chopped onions and add some salt to cook the onions until slightly browned.
- Add in the tomatoe puree and cover and cook till the tomatoes go soft and mushy.
- Next add in the red chilli powder and garam masala and cook until you see oil separating on sides.
- Add in the marinated prawns, and mix it in well. Cook in high - medium flame for some time until all the shrimp is coated in the masala.
- Next add in the water and cover and simmer for 5 -10 mins until the shrimps is cooked well.
- Turn off the heat and garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or Roti
Notes
Remember the prawns or shrimps cooks very fast. Once you add the prawns it should be cooked in max 5-7 mins. Cooking it longer will make the prawns get tougher to eat.
